It’ll be another year before Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel go head-to-head again in late night — and right now the two are keeping things particularly gracious.
A day after NBC announced Fallon’s spring 2014 move from Late Night to The Tonight Show, the host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live sent the host and his staff a lavish lunch spread of corned beef sandwiches from New York’s 2nd Ave Deli.

Fallon responded by snapping a photo of the meal on Instagram. “Thank you Jimmy Kimmel and staff for the 2nd Ave Deli lunch,” he wrote. “Class act.”
Kimmel, who has never been shy about his distaste for Jay Leno, cracked wise on news of Tonight turnover during his Wednesday monologue.
“It is a big one for the world of late-night television,” said Kimmel “As you probably heard, it was announced officially today, starting in February of next year, after the Olympics, I will take over as new host of The Tonight Show.”
The Jimmys are used to going head-to-head. Up until January, both hosts had crossover starting at 12:35 a.m. Kimmel’s move to from 12:05 a.m. to 11:35 p.m. has put him head-to-head with Tonight and The Late Show With David Letterman — and has seen a significant ratings jump in the process. Live recently hit a nine-week high among total viewers and scored the week’s highest showing among adults 18-49 (March 28) across all broadcast network late night series.
As for Fallon, The Hollywood Reporter hears that celebrations have been ongoing since news of the Tonight deal. Yesterday, after taping Late Night, Fallon gave a speech to his staff while they drank Manhattans out of plastic cups and ate a congratulatory cake.
