TORONTO — Toni Collette and Jean Reno have joined the cast of Peter Chelsom‘s dramedy Hector and the Search for Happiness.
They will perform opposite Simon Pegg, Rosamund Pike and Christopher Plummer in the film adaptation of the novel by François Lelord, which is now starting production in Vancouver.
The film is a German-Canadian co-production produced by Screen Siren Pictures and Egoli Tossell Film, and co-produced by Erfttal Film GmbH, Wild Bunch Germany and Construction Film and Film House Germany and Head Gear Films, the U.K. film financier.
Pegg plays Hector, an eccentric yet irresistible London psychiatrist in crisis.
Collette is to play Hector’s ex-girlfriend Agnes, and Reno will perform the role of the drug baron Diego.
And Veronica Ferres has joined the ensemble cast as the clairvoyant Anjali.
The producers are Christine Haebler, Trish Dolman, Judy Tossell and Klaus Dohle.
Executive producers are Phil Hunt and Compton Ross for Head Gear Films/Metrol Technology, Jens Meurer for Egoli Tossell Film, and Christian Angermayer and Marc Hansell for Film House Germany.
International sales are handled by London’s Bankside Films, excluding North American rights, which are represented by UTA.
Wild Bunch Germany is distributing in German-speaking Europe and Entertainment One has acquired all rights for Canada.
The shoot will move from Vancouver to London and then on to South Africa and China before wrapping in late June.
