After news broke of the Doors co-founder Ray Manzarek‘s death, many in Hollywood — and the music industry in particular — hit the Internet to share their memories and pay tribute to the late keyboardist.
Manzarek died Monday in Rosenheim, Germany, at the RoMed Clinic after a battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74.

I am very saddened by loss of Ray Manzarak now he’s with Jim. They mean as much to me today as they did 40 years ago.
And on Facebook, tributes are also coming in.
Writes actor and singer Michael Des Barres: “Ray Manzarek had the patience of a saint. He recognized the need for a thoughtful, carnal force in rock and roll that was not there before he opened The Doors. The music remains inspiring and timeless. … Personally, I found him a true renaissance gentleman. Part zen and part hedonist, kind and open, literary and spontaneous. He will live forever in the Pantheon of Popular music. The Doors of Perception, indeed. God bless him and his family.”
The members of the Los Angeles-based band X, whose 1980 album “Los Angeles” was produced by Manzarek, also paid tribute:
“Ray led by example, from the doors to carmine burana and beyond. He is and will always be a spirit being, adept at expanding perception. And once those doors of perception are opened, they never close. He taught me that we are the keys, that we can unlock all doors, everywhere, to create magic, to transform ourselves and power the world, through joy and love and imagination and art and, above all through music. – Exene
