CNN is sticking with Anthony Bourdain. The cable news network announced Wednesday that the traveling foodie will see a second season to his recently launched Parts Unknown.
The Sunday series, which is averaging a competitive 389,000 adults 25-54 demographic, has been topping the night’s cable news competition in the three weeks since it launched. It also has been fetching 872,000 viewers, more than doubling the network’s time slot average from a year ago.
“Tony and Zero Point Zero Production have created a spectacularly beautiful, informative and entertaining series for CNN that has resonated with viewers in a profound way,” said CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker. “In addition to its runaway ratings success, it is also quite the conversation starter, as anyone who follows social media can attest. We are so happy to announce season two, and I can assure you that audiences will love what is coming up on the show.”
The next batch of eight episodes, set to bow Sept. 15, will see Bourdain travel to Spain, New Mexico, Israel, Copenhagen, Sicily, Detroit, Tokyo and India.
Parts Unknown is the first project of a partnership between Bourdain and CNN that took him away from nearly a decade with Travel Channel. No Reservations wrapped its 142-episode run on Travel in November.
Bourdain also is producing upcoming travel series The Getaway for the soon-to-launch Esquire Network.
