TORONTO – His Canadian fans aren’t buying the bad press Justin Bieber has earned after his paparazzi run-ins and recent Anne Frank museum visit while touring in Europe.
The Canadian-born teen superstar on Sunday night won the fan choice award at the Junos, Canada’s music awards.
Bieber did lose out to fellow Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen as her Kiss release was named best album of the year.

Jepsen, who was introduced to the nationwide telecast Sunday night by One Direction, via satellite, also won for best single of the year with her catchy Call Me Maybe pop song.
She beat out competition from fellow Canucks Billy Talent, Hedley, Serena Ryder and The Sheepdogs.
Bieber, who mentors Jepsen, cheered her win while on tour in Europe. “hey if I’m gonna miss one at least it’s my own artist. Lol. Now bring out the @NICKIMINAJ song!,” Bieber said on his Twitter account.
Jepsen and her Kiss album on Saturday night beat out Bieber’s Believe release to earn the best pop album of the year trophy in pre-televised prize-giving at the Junos.
Jepsen came into Canada’s music awards pitted against Bieber in four categories.
Also Sunday night, Leonard Cohen won for best songwriter of the year, adding to a Junos haul that included the Canadian legend winning artist of the year on Saturday night during pre-telecast prize giving.

Cohen beat out both Jepsen and Bieber for the best artist crown.
During both wins, son Adam Cohen came on the Regina, Saskatchewan stage to accept the trophy on his father’s behalf.
And Marianas Trench won for best group of the year, beating out fellow rockers Rush just days after that band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, while Monster Truck earned the breakthrough group of the year honors.
Another highlight of the Junos: k.d. lang told the nationwide TV audience “be yourself. Let your freak flags fly” as she was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame by fellow Canadian musician Anne Murray.
In other prize-giving, Serena Ryder’s Harmony was named best adult alternative album of the year.
The Junos, which were hosted by Michael Buble, aired on the CTV network.
