STOCKTON-

Students on the UOP campus are being evacuated immediately as a precaution due to a gas leak near the school.

The leak is in the Lake Vew District, near Brookside Road and Crown Avenue.

According to PG&E, they found a leaking 4-inch plastic distribution pipe around 2 p.m. PG&E crews are currently digging to get to the pipe to see what the problem is.

Gas will be shut off in the area beginning at 4:30 p.m. Firefighters are helping evacuate the area, and the evacuated people will likely be able to return to their home or building once the gas is shut off.

Approximately 300 residents were evacuated because of the leak.

FOX40 has a team heading to the gas leak and will have the latest info tonight @ 5 and 6 p.m.
