SACRAMENTO-

The Sacramento Kings announced another tech partnership Thursday, this time with the rapidly growing rideshare service Uber.

The Kings are the first pro sports franchise to integrate Uber into their team mobile app.  For those unfamiliar with the Kings’ newest partner, Uber uses a smartphone app to link passengers with drivers for hire. Customers can use the app to request a ride and then they can track their driver’s car as it comes to pick them up and take them to their destination.

“Our partnership with Uber is a win-win for Sacramento Kings fans,” said Kings President Chris Granger. “Not only are we utilizing technology to provide and enhanced and more frictionless experience, but we’re also increasing safety for our fans, arena neighbors, and the region. The Kings support of new ride-sharing platforms like Uber are a key factor in making Sacramento and the Capitol region a more viable place to live.”

Fans with iOS mobile devices can start using the new feature on the Kings app when the team takes on the Golden State Warriors on October 29th. The Android version of the app will be available mid-November.

“This first-of-a-kind partnership is part of Uber’s mission to change the way people move, work and live,” said Uber’s Sacramento General Manager Wayne Ting. “Sacramentans are already big fans of Uber, and now Kings fans can use the team’s app to make sure they get a safe, reliable and affordable ride to each and every home game at the tap of a button.”

As part of the agreement, the Kings will also distribute Uber credits to season ticket holders and other ticket buyers throughout the 2014-15 season.
