ELK GROVE-

An outlet mall with a new name, “The Outlet Collection at Elk Grove,” is coming into an old location.

You may remember seeing the half-built structure on southbound Highway 99 in Elk Grove, it won’t be half-built for long. The Howard Hughes Corporation is planning to finally finish the project.

“They are putting together an upscale outlet center,” said Mayor Gary Davis of Elk Grove.

Davis says it will be unlike any outlet mall in the area. This one will have a movie theater, high end restaurants and an amphitheater.

“Outlet center if done right they bring in just as much sales tax per capita as a traditional mall,” Mayor Davis said.

While the city is excited to finally have something being done with the property, they aren’t rushing their approval process. They want the Howard Hughes Corporation to prove they have the best retailers coming to Elk Grove.

“Coach, Nordstrom Rack, Calvin Klein. Those are the A-list tenants we would be looking at. We will require a certain number of A-list and B-list clients,” said Mayor Davis.

It will take at least a year and a half before stores are open to the public.
