MacGlashan: County Service Center to Relocate

In order to encourage residents and businesses to invest and grow our economy, one of the most important things the County can do is make it easier for the public to do business with us when necessary. While I’m always looking for ways to reduce County interference in the private sector, there are things that the County must do such as reviewing planning applications and issuing building permits.

Several years ago the County took a major step to make it easier and more convenient for county residents to conduct business with the County by opening County Service Centers, first on Watt Avenue in North Highlands followed by a second on Hazel Avenue in Fair Oaks. For over eight years, thousands of residents and businesses have used these conveniently located County offices to obtain permits and records previously only available in downtown Sacramento or at the County’s Branch Center on Bradshaw Road.

The service centers have been so successful that the County has decided to relocate the North County Service Center from Watt Avenue in North Highlands to a more efficient space in McClellan Business Park (the former McClellan Air Force Base). While the Center is temporarily closed for the relocation, this summer the center will reopen in its new location at 3331 Peacekeeper Way. While a date-certain has yet to be determined, I will certainly keep my constituents aware of the reopening date.

The relocated service center will boast all the services previously available on Watt Avenue, including building permitting, development plan check, code enforcement, and transportation. Additionally, the new space will be adding staff from the County Clerk-Recorder’s office, meaning north area residents will no longer have to travel downtown for vital records such as birth certificates and marriage licenses, or to record documents. Additionally, new technology will enable video conferencing with County staff at other locations should a question arise that cannot be answered by staff present at the Center.

As with the previous location, the new Service Center will provide ample no-cost parking and will be accessible by those using public transit.

In the meantime, please feel free to make use of the service center at 5229-B Hazel Avenue in Fair Oaks or the County office buildings downtown and at Bradshaw. If you have any difficulty figuring out where to go, please do not hesitate to ask my staff for assistance by calling my office at (916)874-5491. You can also email me directly at macglashanr@saccounty.net. We are standing by to help make working with the County as easy as possible.

Additionally, I am regularly bringing County staff to the community so that you can hear from those running various County programs and departments. These Community Cabinet Meetings are a great opportunity for you to have face-to-face interactions with me and many other public officials. In Elverta, we meet during the odd-numbered months on the third Wednesday at 7:30am in the Cherry Island Golf Course Bar and Grill. In Rio Linda, I attend the Community Awareness Safety Alliance Meeting, which will meet again on the third Thursday of September at 5:30pm in the Park District Community Center.

I hope to see you there!
