TORONTO – Armoza International Media has picked up the international format rights to its Little Mosque on the Prairies series from Canadian producer WestWind Pictures.
The MIPTV deal follows Participant Media’s Pivot acquiring the rights to rerun all six seasons of the fish-out-of-water comedy about a Muslim-Canadian community in Saskatchewan from August 2013.
The original Canadian comedy also airs on Hulu Plus in the U.S. market.
“Little Mosque does something unique – it breaks down prejudices and fosters tolerance between cultures in a highly entertaining way,” Armoza CEO Avi Armoza said Monday in a statement from Cannes, where he will start representing the format rights to foreign broadcasters.
Little Mosque on the Prairie, which airs internationally in around 90 markets, was earlier set up at 20th Century Fox TV after it acquired the U.S. format rights.
WestWind also enlisted PPI Releasing to pitch the comedy to American broadcasters.
Little Mosque on the Prairies was created by Zarqa Nawaz, and debuted on the CBC in 2007.
