ABC Family is adding its first procedural.
The youth-skewing Disney-owned cable network has handed out a series order for Stitchers, and renewed comedy Young & Hungry for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Stitchers, from writer Jeffrey A. Schechter (Overruled) centers on a young woman recruited into a covert government agency to be “stitched” into the minds of the recently deceased, using their memories to investigate murders and decipher mysteries that otherwise would have gone to the grave. Jonathan Baruch and Rob Wolken exec produce alongside Schechter.
The drama pilot was picked up to pilot after ABC Family dropped controversial pilot Alice in Arabiafollowing a public backlash.

Young & Hungry, from EP Ashley Tisdale and CBS Television Studios, ranks as basic cable’s No. 1 telecast in its time slot among adults 18-34 and women 18034. The series also earned two Teen Choice Award nominations for choice summer TV show and leading lady Emily Osment. The comedy hails from CBS Television Studios and exec producers David Holden, Tisdale, Jessica Rhoades, Caryn Lucas and Eric and Kim Tannenbaum.
The move to renew Young & Hungry comes after ABC Family canceled Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth comedy Mystery Girls following a one-season run. Meanwhile, fellow drama pilot Recovery Road remains under consideration and tennis entry Unstrung has been passed over. Holdover comedy pilot Work Mom, from the producers of Bunheads, is also not moving forward.
Young & Hungry and Stitchers arrive as ABC Family, under new chief Tom Ascheim, is zeroing in on older women, with a procedural high on the executive’s want list.
Both shows join a roster that includes Baby Daddy, Chasing Life, The Fosters, Melissa & Joey and Switched at Birth.
