OMAHA, Neb. – Head coach Jim Flanery of the Creighton women's basketball team has announced the hiring of Carrie Moore as an assistant coach on his staff. Moore joins the Bluejay staff after serving as the Director of Basketball Operations at Princeton for the past two seasons.
“I think Carrie is going to be a tremendous fit for our staff,” said Flanery of the hire. “She is young, eager and enthusiastic. At the same time, the hiring process revealed someone who is mature, prepared and a very good communicator. Carrie is not far removed from a terrific collegiate career at Western Michigan, and her success as a player reflects her love for the game and her intelligence in her approach to it. In her two years working at Princeton, the program experienced the most success it has ever had. I know that she both learned from and contributed to that success. We expect her to be able to help impact our program similarly.”
At Princeton, Moore was part of the program's first ever NCAA Tournament appearance this past March, as the Tigers went 26-3 on the season, including 14-0 in Ivy League play. In her two seasons at Princeton, the Tigers posted a 40-17 record.
“When I saw the job opening, I knew immediately that Creighton was not only a great academic school, but also a great basketball school,” said Moore. “From the moment I talked to Flan, it really seemed like a perfect fit for me and for the school.”
Moore, a native of Lathrup Village, Mich., attended Western Michigan, where she graduated magna cum laude with a journalism degree in 2007 after a standout basketball career. The 2007 Mid-American Conference Co-Player of the Year, she led the NCAA in scoring, averaging 25.4 points per game as a senior. Her final campaign also saw her named CoSIDA Academic All-America Second-Team and earn Kodak Honorable Mention All-America honors.
She finished her career at WMU as the school's all-time leading scorer, pouring in 2,224 points in her 120 career games – all starts. She set nine school records and four MAC records during her outstanding 2006-07 senior season, becoming the only MAC player to ever lead the NCAA in scoring.
Moore was hired at Princeton after playing one year of professional basketball in Poland. Following graduation and before her stint in Poland, she signed a free agent contract with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA.
Moore replaces Dayna Finch, who accepted a position on Nebraska's staff in April. She will begin her duties at Creighton on June 1.
