PRINCETON, N.J. (2/26/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team scored 96 points, the most points by a Tiger squad since 2002, as Princeton defeated Cornell 96-59 on Friday, Feb. 26 at Jadwin Gym.

Coincidentally Princeton was just one point shy of tying the record for most points in a game, which is 97 set against Centenary in 2002.

All 12 players saw at least nine minutes of playing time, with freshman Niveen Rasheed leading the team in scoring with 18 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Devona Allgood had 15 points, seven boards and two blocks while classmate Lauren Edwards added 14 points. Freshman Kate Miller was the fourth Tiger in double figures with a career-high 10 points. Freshman Lauren Polansky matched her career-best of six assists and had three steals.

Princeton improves to 22-2 overall and 10-0 in Ivy League play. The Tigers extend their win streak to 17 straight.

"I've been saying all year the strength of our team lies in our depth," head coach Courtney Banghart said. "Tonight was another example of a great team win."

Junior Addie Micir drained a three, eight seconds into the game, and Princeton would maintain that lead throughout the game. Four minutes in the Tigers had a seven-point lead, 12-5. Midway through the first half Princeton had a 15-point edge, 29-14, after a jumper from just inside the top of the key by Rasheed.

After a three by Cornell's Taylor Flynn the Tigers went on an 11-0 run to gain a 40-17 lead with 6:25 to play in the half. Whitney Hagan's layup at 5:20 ended Cornell's drought.

Miller scored Princeton's next six points to give Princeton a 46-22 lead and sophomore Beth Binkley hit a three with 15 seconds left to give the Tigers a 23-point lead, 53-30, headed into the locker room.

The Tigers came out in the second half on a 16-2 run to make it a 37-point game, 69-32. Banghart would sit her starters for the remaining 12 minutes to give the bench some time and they didn't disappoint as they helped to expand the Tigers' lead.

Leading the way in the final minutes was freshman center Megan Bowen putting up a career-best nine points and turned a three-point play with five minutes left to give Princeton an 85-47 lead.

Junior Krystal Hill had a fast break basket and sophomore Laura Johnson hit a free throw after getting fouled on the way to the basket after grabbing a steal to give Princeton a 41-point lead, its largest of the game with 4:36 to play. Cornell would score 11 in those final four minutes but could only get within 35, as Princeton earned the 96-59 win.

Allie Munson had a double-double for the Big Red scoring 12 points and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds.  Christine Vlasic had eight points, while Allie Fedorowicz and Flynn each had seven points. Lauren Benson and Spencer Lane each dished out five assists while Benson picked up two steals. Cornell shot 44.2 percent overall, 80 percent from the line and 31.3 percent from long range.

Princeton shot 48.7 percent from the field, 83.3 percent from the line and 29.2 percent from the three-point line.

Princeton will host Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. The Lions earned an 80-61 win over Penn at The Palestra this evening.
