A Guide to Wearing Cozy Cold Weather Staples: Chunky Sweaters

Chunky Sweaters 001

Finding a stylish way to wear chunky sweaters can sometimes be a challenge. Depending on fit and style there are so many ways to mix and match them. Here's a foolproof guide to wearing those cozy sweaters that we all know and love.

Sophisticated Simplicity

012.

The thing I love about a good poncho is the effortless look that can take anyone from frumpy to chic in under a minute (please also side note that said poncho must be worn correctly in order to avoid that not-so-lovely sack-of-potatoes look). One of the easiest ways to pull off a poncho is to pair it with a great pair of denim, or, like pictured here, a nice slim cut black pant. Make sure to add punches of style with shoes and handbags, but keep jewelry simple. The shape speaks for itself!

Feminine Flannel

Flannel. As adorable as some make it seem, I've found out over the years that some women avoid it all together. Not because of it's somewhat bold impression it puts upon an outfit, but because some women simply don't know how to take the masculinity away from it's lose fitting and somewhat gruff reputation. The secret is to add feminine touches, while still maintaining the coziness of these wonderful staples.

Take a Twist on Black

Black is always a classic pick. While there are many that seem to not appreciate it's timelessness, it's simplicity can easily be elevated with pops of color and even the tiniest detail within the fabric itself.

Black is Back

My biggest issue with black is that it's rarely seen paired with dark hues. A mixture of navy or touches of brown can change an outfit entirely and can most definitely work based on the pieces that are being mixed. Take this outfit for example, an awesome wide leg, high waisted trouser* paired with a cropped black sweater. The pops of color found in the accessories is enough to keep this outfit simple. However, the added touch of tan moccasins and a deep brown bomber creates a casual and trendy ensemble, that anyone can pull off.

*Note: When pairing a jacket with a wide legged pant .. always, always, always make sure that the cut is flattering. Problems can arise when a jacket is cut too long and results in creating bulk.
