Return of Flint's Brandie Baker a big plus for CMU's women's basketball team

Central Michigan women's basketball coach Sue Guevara welcomes a promising group of freshmen this season, but the return of Flint's Brandie Baker may have the biggest impact.

a sophomore from Flint Hamady, missed all of last season with a knee injury she suffered in preseason workouts. Baker was the Mid-American Conference's Freshman of the Year in 2008-09, when she set a program record with 1,111 minutes played.

Baker, a 6-foot guard/forward, finished fourth in Michigan's Miss Basketball voting after her senior year at Hamady, where she helped the Hawks to a 93-11 record during her three seasons. Hamady won four district championships during that time and reached the state semifinals twice.

a senior forward. Laura, who played two seasons at Lansing Community College, averaged 2.1 points per game for the Chippewas last year.
