Debbie Yow is shaking a lot of hands these days.
“I think if you’re going to be an athletic director, you have to have a propensity for shaking hands and meeting people," said Yow, "I enjoy it.”
In her first official day on the job as NC State’s Athletic Director, Yow says raising the expectations for Wolfpack Athletics will be at the top of her agenda.
“We’ve developed a theme: ‘Wolfpack Unlimited: refuse to accept the status quo.’”
And that message resonates throughout a N.C. State fan base hungry for winners.
“It’s absolutely important to our fan base to set high goals. We do have issues to fix for us to achieve at the highest levels of the NCAA.”
Yow plans to meet with each of her coaches to determine what their programs need for success, then hold those coaches accountable once those needs are met.
“I’ve never felt the need to be apologetic for high expectations once the basic foundational needs are in place for an administrator or a coach.”
Yow says her family ties to N.C. State and her long association with the ACC have made the transition easier. Now the business of running Wolfpack Athletics begins in earnest.
