HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i women's basketball head coach Dana Takahara-Dias announced an addition to her coaching staff with the hiring of Gabe Henry as assistant coach for the Rainbow Wahine. Henry joins Takahara-Dias' staff entering their second season at UH.

“Gabe will offer us tremendous recruiting ability in the junior college system as well as in the Midwest,” Takahara-Dias said. “He brings great enthusiasm and exuberance to the program. He will work with the post players and will be one of our recruiting coaches.”

Most recently, Henry was an assistant coach at Odessa College (Odessa, Texas) during the 2009-10 season. Henry helped the Wranglers qualify to the NJCAA Region 5 tournament with a 23-8 overall record. Prior to Odessa College, Henry was Director of Women's Basketball Operations at Gonzaga University (Spokane, Wash.). In his second season at Gonzaga, Henry helped the Bulldogs to their first ever NCAA tournament win in 2009. The team won the West Coast Conference tournament and finished first in the league with a 27-7 overall record.

After playing two years at Missouri Valley College (2003-2005), Henry was a student assistant for the men's basketball team from 2005-2007. The team finished fourth in the Heart of America Athletic Conference during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. Henry also helped coach the junior varsity men's basketball team to a second-place finish at the HAAC JV Tournament in 2007.

Henry earned his bachelor's degree in physical education at Missouri Valley College.  During his two years as a graduate assistant at Gonzaga, he earned his master's of arts degree in sport and athletic administration. Henry is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association as well as the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
