Griffin and Griner Selected Phillips 66 Big 12 Women?s Basketball Players of the Week

Kelsey Griffin (Nebraska) and Brittney Griner (Baylor) were named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week by a media voting panel for games from Feb. 22-28. Griffin (player) earned her 10th career award and fifth of the season. Griner (freshman) was recognized for the seventh time this season.

Kelsey Griffin averaged 24.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals as Nebraska improved its record to 27-0 and clinched its first Big 12 regular season title. The 6-2 senior forward opened the week with 30 points and 13 rebounds in No. 3 NU's win at No. 11 Oklahoma last Wednesday. She hit 11-of-19 shots from the field while connecting on 8-of-10 free throws. She added an assist, a block and a steal in a Big 12-season-high 35 minutes of play. Griffin capped her week with 19 points and a career high 17 rebounds against Missouri. She also blocked a career-best five shots and set the school record by hitting 17 free throws in a school-record-tying 18 attempts. The Eagle River, Alaska, native hit 25-of-28 free throws on the week to set the school career record for both free throws made and attempted. She also surpassed the school single-season mark in free throw attempts, and needs just two more free throws made to break that single-season record.

Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshman of the Week
Brittney Griner, Baylor, P, 6-8, Houston, Texas

Brittney Griner averaged 21.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 7.0 blocks and 3.0 assists in Baylor's two victories last week, including her first career 20-20 game and two double-doubles. In Baylor's road victory over No. 12 Texas A&M, the 6-8 post tallied 22 points, a career-high 21 rebounds, a career-high four assists and four blocks. Griner again hit the 20-point mark in BU's win over Kansas. She recorded her 13th double-double when she added 10 blocks to her 20 point performance. She was 8-of-16 from the floor, made all four of her free throw attempts and added four rebounds and two assists. Griner is averaging 18.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 6.1 blocks on the season.
