Women's Hoops Adds 6-Foot-8 Post Player To 2010 Recruiting Class

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's basketball program and head coach Karen Aston announces the signing of 6-foot-8 post player Mireille (Mimi) Mungedi, from Libreville, Gabon, to a financial aid agreement for the 2010-11 season. Mungedi joins Tiona Burley of Camilla, Georgia, Markeisha Gatling of Raleigh, North Carolina, Ny Hammonds of Concord, North Carolina, Paige McCallum of Whiteville, North Carolina, Gabby Tyler of Emporia, Virginia and Lanie Whitaker of Boiling Springs, South Carolina as the seven members of the 49ers' 2010 recruiting class.

"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Mimi to our program," Aston said. "Our staff spent a lot of time getting to know her and her situation, and I believe it was meant to be for her to be at Charlotte.  I am excited that she is going to first and foremost, begin her education here.  She is a very bright student who will excel, I believe, in the classroom.  In addition to that, I can't wait to get Mimi on the court and see what her potential is and will be in basketball.  She has so much to absorb, but how can you not be excited about the potential? Needless to say, it will be fun to watch this freshmen class grow here at Charlotte."

Mungedi, who will be the tallest player in 49ers women's basketball history, graduated from Nelson Mandela High School in Libreville, Gabon. While in Gabon, which is a country that is located on the west coast of Africa, Mungedi played for the Libreville Basketball Club where she averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and eight blocked shots per game. Mungedi's two older sisters, Kamuayna and Linda, are both students at UNC Charlotte.

With the addition of Mungedi to the 49ers roster, Charlotte will have six players that are 6-foot-2 or taller on the 2010-11 roster.

Burley, Gatling, Hammonds, McCallum, Mungedi, Tyler and Whitaker join a Charlotte 49ers' women's basketball program that will be seeking their school-record ninth consecutive postseason tournament bid in 2011.
