Caitlin Flood Returns to Manhattan as Assistant Coach

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Former Manhattan College women's basketball star Caitlin Flood will return to the program as an assistant coach for the 2010-11 season, Head Coach John Olenowski announced today.  Flood, who ranks fifth on the Lady Jaspers' all-time scoring list, has been playing professionally in England for the past two years.

"We are thrilled to bring Caitlin back to the Manhattan family," Olenowski said.  "Her basketball knowledge and teaching ability will really help our program.  Besides being a terrific basketball player, she is an outstanding person who will be a positive role model for our players."

A four-year starter, Flood tallied 1,399 points and 600 rebounds during her Manhattan career, placing her in the Top 10 in each category.  She ranks fifth all-time in scoring and 10th in rebounding.  After earning a Third Team All-MAAC selection following the 2006-07 season, Flood was named First Team All-MAAC as a senior in 2007-08.

She has spent the last two seasons playing in the English Basketball League (EBL).  In 2009-10, she helped the Nottingham Wildcats finish third in the EBL, leading the team in rebounding (8.2 rpg) and placing second in scoring (18.0 ppg).  Flood began her professional career with the Manchester Mystics in 2008-09, and she was named Second Team All-EBL that season.

"I'm so excited for this great opportunity," Flood said.  "It's always wonderful to give back and work for your alma mater.  I'm ready and excited for a great season, as well as working with the team and staff."

Flood's hiring completes the Manhattan coaching staff for next season.  Assistant coaches Sonia Burke and Christine Catalanotto return for their eighth and third seasons, respectively, while Olenowski enters his second year at the helm.

The Lady Jaspers, who went 15-15 in 2009-10, return four starters from last year's team, including Second Team All-MAAC forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer (North Huntingdon, Pa.).  Manhattan begins the 2010-11 campaign on Friday, Nov. 12.
