PHILADELPHIA – With 50 rebounds to Duquesne's 25, the Temple women's basketball team earned a 52-41 win on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 20-6 overall. Kristen McCarthy led all players with 18 points, and Natasha Thames came off the bench to tie her career high with 11 rebounds.

Duquesne (18-8, 8-3) was previously tied with Temple and Dayton for second place in the Atlantic 10, but the Owls currently stand alone in that spot at 9-2. Dayton will face #6/6 Xavier (10-0 in the A-10) on Wednesday night.

Temple has now gotten to the 20-win mark in seven straight seasons and 11 times in the history of the program. The Owls have won five straight and 10 of their last 11 games.

"There was so much on the line today, and I think we started out a little antsy and anxious instead of composed," said Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza. "But overall I think we did an excellent job of sticking to the game plan."

Marli Bennett and Kristie Watkins-Day combined for Temple's first nine points of the contest as the Owls jumped out to a 9-3 lead at 14:02.

Duquesne picked up the pace and used a 12-2 run to lead by four, 15-11 at the halfway point of the first half. Three ties and three lead changes followed in a low-scoring first half, but Duquesne managed only one field goal in the second 10 minutes and the Owls took a 23-19 lead at the break.

McCarthy, who scored only two of her points in the first half before sitting out with two fouls, came on strong early in the second half and scored eight points in a 12-2 Owls' run.

Temple led by 14 four minutes into the second period, and Duquesne never again narrowed the margin to single digits. Bennett finished the game with 11 points and seven rebounds, and LaKeisha Eaddy tallied a game-high five steals.

Temple will play its next two games on the road before returning home for its final regular-season contest. First up is a 2:00 p.m. contest at Dayton on Saturday, Feb. 20.
