A Banner Night for Women's Basketball as Tigers Win 78-37

PRINCETON, N.J. (11/13/10) - It was a banner night at Jadwin Gym for the Princeton women's basketball team as the Tigers defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 78-37 in the 2010-11 season opener.

Prior to the game the team unveiled its first NCAA Tournament banner after going 26-3 in 2009-10 and earning the Ivy League's automatic bid with a perfect 14-0 mark.

Princeton played all 13 members of the team with 12 players scoring. Three players were in double digits led by junior Devona Allgood's 20 points. She added seven rebounds, three blocks, three steals and one assist coming in 24 minutes of play. Sophomore Niveen Rasheed added 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and one steal. Senior Addie Micir scored 12 points, hitting four three pointers and chipping in three assists, two steals and a rebound. Princeton shot 42.6 percent from the floor and missed just two of its 17 free throws.

Esther Wallace led the Knights with 13 points, while adding five rebounds and two blocks. Jasmyra Saunder had a team-best six rebounds and four steals while scoring five points. Mariyah Laury chipped in six points. As a team FDU shot 26 percent from the floor and 58.8 percent from the line.

The Tigers grabbed a 10-point lead, 19-9, at 12:48. During that time Allgood scored eight of those 19 points with Micir draining two of her four three pointers. Princeton continued to find the net scoring the next six points to make it 25-9 with a little more than nine minutes to play in the half.

The Knights were able to make it an 11-point game on three occasions including at the 1:55 mark of the first. However the Tigers would close out the first half on a 9-0 run to head into the locker room with a 39-20 lead.

Princeton's run wasn't over yet as the Tigers came out in the second and scored 17 straight points to go up 56-20 at 15:12.

A three-point basket by Alannah Driscoll-Sbar ended the drought for FDU at 12:58.

The Knights would only get within 30 points during the remainder of the game with came around the 10-minute mark. Back up by 36 points with 1:41 to play Princeton finished scoring the last seven points to wrap up the game 78-37.

Princeton will be on the road for the next five games first stopping off at Rutgers on Thursday, Nov. 18 for 7:30 p.m.
