Schneider may leave Emporia State

The Capital-Journal

Brandon Schneider, who guided Emporia State to the NCAA Division II women's basketball championship last month, is expected to be named head coach at Division I Stephen F. Austin.

Schneider was one of three finalists who interviewed for the position, with Sandra Rushing, of Delta State, and Dave Wilbers, of Arkansas Tech. He could be hired as early as Monday after the Stephen F. Austin board of regents meets.

Schneider, who has a 306-72 record in 12 seasons at Emporia State, couldn't be reached for comment Sunday. The Hornets were 30-5 this season and won their first national title, reaching the Division II tournament 11 of Schneider's 12 years.

Stephen F. Austin is a member of the Southland Conference located in Nacogdoches, Texas. The school is looking to replace Lee Ann Riley, who resigned after compiling a 149-116 record in nine years, going 18-11 this year with a berth in the WNIT.
