Ron Williams resigns as women's basketball coach

Kentucky Wesleyan College head women's basketball coach Ron Williams announced his decision to resign his position effective March 31, 2010.

"I am resigning because of my desire to see the program improve from its current position, I believe it is time for new leadership," said Williams.

"I have a lot of thank yous to give, but the greatest thank you goes to all my former players, who through their efforts achieved goals that this program had not accomplished in its history."

Gary Gallup, KWC director of athletics, said. “I sincerely appreciate what Ron has done for our women's basketball program at Kentucky Wesleyan.

"It is certainly in better shape now than when he took over seven years ago. He has run a clean program with integrity, was always a team player in the department, and his student-athletes maintained a 3.0 or better GPA in the four years I have worked with him. "

Williams added, "I have been blessed with the support of the KWC community during my eight-year tenure as an assistant and head coach with the program. It has been an honor to oversee this program and I wish everyone the greatest success for the future."

Williams collected a school record 85 wins while posting a second-best 18-win season in 2007.

"We wish Ron and his family the best,” Gallup said.
