MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson announced Tuesday that women’s basketball coach Mike Bradbury has resigned to pursue other professional opportunities.
Bradbury, who just completed his third season at MSU, has a career record of 50-44, all as bench boss of the Eagles. Prior to Morehead State, he was an assistant at Xavier, Cincinnati, VCU, ETSU and Chattanooga.
“We are disappointed to be losing a coach of Mike’s caliber, and we thank him for three years of success,” Hutchinson said. “However, we will move forward with the next chapter of Eagle women’s basketball. We will find a candidate who understands the short and long-term goals of our program and has the credentials to help us reach those goals.”
Morehead State ended its season on March 17 with a 67-59 loss to College of Charleston in the Women’s College Basketball Invitational tournament. It marked the first time in MSU Division I history the Eagles have played in the post-OVC postseason.
Under Bradbury, the Eagles had 22 victories in 2009-10, setting the school’s NCAA-era (1981-82-present) record for victories in a season. The Eagles also finished the OVC regular season with a 14-4 mark and a new school single season conference wins record. The 14-4 effort was also the highest conference winning percentage in a season in school history.
MSU also set the school mark for wins in a two-year span. Previously the record was held by the 2001-02 and 2002-03 teams with 37, but with the OVC Tournament first round victory over Murray State this year, Bradbury’s Eagles won 39 games during the last two seasons.
Morehead State will immediately begin a national search for Bradbury’s replacement
