Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy – The Healing Touch

Have you noticed how people are feeling much more stressed, anxious, upset, etc these days? Our emotional states not only affect how we feel, but they also affect how often we get sick and how well we heal. When we feel stressed, anxious, or upset, our nervous systems activates the fight – or – flight response.  This puts us into a state of high alert.  This is ok on an occasional basis, but we are not meant to stay in that state.  Unfortunately, many of us are living in a constant state of high alert, which keeps our nervous system ramped up and puts us at a higher risk of feeling ill and also prevents us from healing well.

Craniosacral therapy is an effective way to get your body out of the high alert state, allowing you to heal.As a Craniosacral Specialist, I use a specific, gentle touch to map the body’s response to stress and injury (both physical and emotional ) and then support the body in healing.

Craniosacral therapy, which I refer to as a type of Energy Medicine, is also used to help the body – mind – spirit stay in balance, which also keeps us healthy.

Who can benefit from craniosacral therapy?  EVERYONE!

But I would like to turn the focus on our littlest humans – Babies!Shortly after conception when the cells start to build the body, the nervous system is the first thing that forms. (1) footnote.

Baby Bones ….

  • The frontal bone consist of two parts
  • The sphenoid consist of three parts
  • The temporal bone consist of four parts
  • The ethmoid consist of three parts
  • The maxilla consist of two parts
  • The mandible consist of two parts
  • The atlas consist of three parts
  • The sacrum consist of five parts

The base of the skull is the most vulnerable. It is where the nerves and blood vessels go in and out of the skull.

How on Earth do babies get jammed up?! And, why would a newborn need craniosacral therapy?

Natural Birth – when a newborn passes through the birth canal, he is completely compressed. Sometimes their little bones end up in the wrong spot or slide over each other and get stuck. When this happens it hinders the brain because there is not enough space to grow. The spinal column can also become compressed.

Forceps – This life saving tool can cause the sphenoid to become permanently tilted, because it is in three parts at birth. It can also be shifted during normal birth compression. When this happens it can restrict normal rhythmic skull bone movement. One of the most common examples is a left facial slant, where the left eye is smaller or higher, and the corner of the mouth droops slightly.Bruising of the head, colic and reflux are also indications that reshaping / balancing the sphenoid may be needed.

Cesarean, Acute or planned – with cesarean the Vagus nerve will not be activated. When this happens it can cause a long list of potential challenges.  The Vagus nerve represents the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system, which oversees a vast array of crucial body and mind functions, including control of mood, immune response, digestion ( a common one), and heart rate.. It establishes one of the connections between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract.

Babies that have any of the above issues should have a craniosacral therapy session to evaluate them, and start them on a healing path.  Craniosacral therapy is gentle and safe for all ages.

Now, imagine if you had issues as a baby that were never fixed?  It could compound over time, causing a multitude of issues as you age.

Craniosacral therapy can influence change and healing in many areas.  If you have any type of physical pain or any other chronic issue (physical, emotional, mental), try a craniosacral therapy session and see the amazing benefits for yourself.
