DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University Vice President and Director of Athletics
Kevin White announced on Friday the school has extended Blue Devil Women's Basketball Head Coach
Joanne P. McCallie's contract by three years through 2017.

Given the tremendous recruiting success Joanne and her staff have enjoyed, the excitement for Duke Women's Basketball is at an all-time high. Joanne is one of the bright stars at the university, and under her outstanding leadership, Duke is positioned to be one of the elite programs in the country.”
In three seasons at Duke, McCallie has guided the Blue Devils to a an 82-22 overall record and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight finish in 2009-10. Known as Coach P throughout the women's basketball community, McCallie became the first NCAA Division I Head Coach to win a league championship in four different conferences when Duke claimed the 2010 ACC title in March.
“My family and I are absolutely thrilled about the contract extension and the leadership at Duke -- from President Brodhead, to Dr. White, to Coach K and everyone else,” commented McCallie. “Duke is an incredible place and this is an amazing time to be in Durham. To receive that extension, to give us the opportunity to continue to pursue championships here at the highest level and to coach an amazing group of women means so much to all of us. We are excited to move forward and do a whole lot more.”
In her short time with the Blue Devils, Coach P has knocked off 20 ranked opponents, including four top five teams. The 2010 ACC Coach of the Year, McCallie is the only coach in Division I history to be named league coach of the year in four different conferences -- ACC, Big Ten, America East and North Atlantic.
Duke registered a 30-6 overall record last year, marking the eighth 30-win season for the Blue Devils over the last 10 years. The Blue Devils return three starters --
Jasmine Thomas,
Karima Christmas and
Krystal Thomas -- from a year ago and welcome the No. 1 ranked recruiting class nationally with the addition of
Chelsea Gray,
Haley Peters,
Tricia Liston,
Richa Jackson and
Chloe Wells.
McCallie has amassed a 398-170 career record in 18 years as a head coach. Her teams have advanced to 14 NCAA Tournaments, won six conference titles and advanced to the NCAA Final Four in 2005.
She is one of only two head coaches in Division I history to lead two different programs to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and is one of only three coaches to lead three different programs to the NCAA Tournament.
Duke will open practice on Oct. 15 with the first exhibition contest coming on Oct. 24 as the Blue Devils host the annual Blue/White game at 2:00 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
