Jackson is the city’s highest-profile modern-day sportsperson and Albury Council has taken the first step in having the stadium where she first played named after her.
Former mayor Amanda Duncan-Strelec requested a report on the renaming of the stadium be presented to the November meeting of council’s community and cultural committee in recognition of Jackson’s outstanding contribution to the sport, which recently included her third WNBA most valuable player award with Seattle Storm.
“You name it, she has done it in the sport: MVP, Olympics, world championships.
“Albury is where Jackson started and her parents did so much for the sport as well,” Cr Duncan-Strelec said yesterday.
