Coach Lea Henry Announces Resignation

ATLANTA (March 22) —Georgia State women's basketball head coach Lea Henry announced her resignation after 16 seasons with the Panthers.

“After much thought and consideration, I have decided that the time is right for me to pursue a new challenge, so I am resigning my position as head women's basketball coach at Georgia State,” said Henry. “I believe this decision is in the best interest of both me and the school.

“I wish nothing but the best for the Georgia State women's basketball program and all of my players. I am looking forward to my next opportunity in the game that I love.”

Henry posted a record of 245-222 at GSU, including a 15-15 mark (6-12 CAA) this season. In 20-plus seasons as a head coach, she has a career mark of 303-222.

Henry guided the Panthers to three NCAA appearances—most recently in 2003—as well as four postseason berths and four 20-win seasons during her tenure.

“We want to express our deep appreciation to Coach Henry for her 16 years of service to Georgia State University,” said Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick. “She is a great teacher of basketball, has coached outstanding student-athletes, and has represented the University and the athletics program with class. We wish her the best.”

Levick said a national coaching search would begin immediately.
