WICHITA, Kan.- Women's Basketball Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist Bridgette Gordon has joined the women's basketball staff as an assistant coach at Wichita State, Head Coach Jody Adams announced today.

“I am thrilled to announce Bridgette as the newest addition to our Shocker family,” Adams said. “Bridgette brings with her four years of playing experience under the winningest coach in the country, Pat Summitt. In addition to Bridget's success as a Division-I basketball player, she brings with her a proven record of success as a recruiter as well as a post position coach.

Bridgette is much more than a basketball coach. She possesses the personal attributes to be a positive role model and mentor to the young female athletes who dream of having successful collegiate careers and of playing in the professional level. Her teaching ability, knowledge of the game, and her ability to know what it takes to get the very best out of a student athlete excites me. Beyond the success she has experienced as a player and coach, Bridgette remains to be one of the most humble people I have ever met and I am pleased she has joined the Shocker family.”

Gordon comes to WSU after three seasons as an assistant coach at Georgia State. Along with being an assistant coach, she was GSU's recruiting coordinator her final two seasons with the Panthers, where she helped land No. 52 ranked class in the nation.

Prior to her time at GSU, Gordon spent two years as a regional scout for the WNBA. She traveled the country rating the top 50 seniors in the nation and evaluated underclassmen for future WNBA consideration.

From 2001-06 Gordon was an assistant coach at Stetson University, and spent her last two seasons with the Hatters as the recruiting coordinator. In 2005, she helped lead the squad to their first conference tournament championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.

A 2007 inductee into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, Gordon's accomplishments on the court are nearly too numerous to count. Like Adams, Gordon was a standout performer for Pat Summitt at Tennessee. She helped lead the Lady Volunteers to the Final Four in each of her four seasons and brought back national championships in 1987 and 1989. She was named to the Final Four All-Tournament team in both of her national championship seasons and was named the Final Four Most Valuable Player in 1989.

In 1988 she was the fourth leading scorer and one of two collegiate members of Team USA that brought home the Olympic gold medal. Gordon's .571 field goal percentage was second on the squad that went 5-0 to achieve its “Sole Goal” of “Seoul Gold”.

Gordon ranks second on the all-time points (2,450) and steals (336) charts at UT and was a four-time All-SEC selection, including taking home the SEC Player of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year awards as a senior in 1989.

In 2001 she became a member of the Lady Vols Athletic Hall of Fame and is one of five players to have her number retired at the school. In addition, she was one of just five players named to the NCAA's 25th Silver Anniversary team in 2006.

Following her successful collegiate career, Gordon played professionally in Italy, where she was a perennial All-Star and won seven Italian Championships, and Turkey, before a two year stint with the WNBA's Sacramento Monarchs.
