WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROLLS TO 66-41 VICTORY AT LONGWOOD

FARMVILLE, Va., Dec. 2, 2010 - Three players scored in double figures and the James Madison women's basketball team cruised to a 66-41 victory at Longwood Thursday night at Willett Hall.

Sophomore Tarik Hislop (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) scored a game-high 13 points as the Dukes improved to 4-3 on the season, while Longwood dropped its fifth straight to go to 1-5.

Senior Lauren Jimenez (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and junior Kiara Francisco (Lakeland, Fla./Winter Haven) each tallied 12 points, while freshman Nikki Newman (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) had a game-high 10 rebounds. Jimenez fell one rebound shy of a double-double, with nine boards.

The Dukes opened the game with a 9-0 run in the first five minutes and led 23-3 after Longwood missed its first 21 shots. The Lancers finally made their first shot of the contest with 8:12 remaining in the first half on a Brittani Billups layup.

JMU led by as much as 24 points in the first half and took a 35-12 lead into the locker room.

The Dukes shot 36 percent from the floor, while limiting Longwood to just 23 percent for the game. JMU outrebounded the Lancers 66-38, with a 21-14 advantage on the offensive glass.

Longwood was led by Chelsea Coward, who was the lone Lancer to score in double figures with 12 points.

The Dukes return to the court Sunday at 2 p.m. when they host Liberty at the JMU Convocation Center.
