SYRACUSE, N.Y.
– Senior forward Nicole Michael looks to make history when then -/rv Syracuse University women's basketball team (16-5, 3-5) travels to Pittsburgh (12-8, 1-6) for a 7 p.m. tip on Tuesday, February 2. Michael's 1,587 career points are just 18 shy of the Syracuse career record.

Michael Eyes Top Spot
Senior forward Nicole Michael has 1,587 career points, which is only 18 short of the Syracuse career record held by Julie McBride. Her 884 rebounds are 73 shy of the top spot, making her third on the all-time list. Her 387 free throws made and 553 free throws attempted both rank first all-time and her career average of 14.4 points per game is second. Michael is also tied for fourth in career rebounding average (8.0) and seventh on SU's blocked shots chart (85). The senior's 550 field goals are fourth all-time and her 100 3-pointers are seventh, while her 1,283 field-goal attempts are third all-time and her 291 3-point attempts are seventh. She is also fifth all-time in 3-point field goal percentage (.344) and is second all-time with 110 career starts and eighth in minutes with 3,038.

Last Time Out

The Orange nearly knocked off No. 3/3 Notre Dame after fighting off a 14-point halftime deficit and allowing only 21 second half points, but it was not enough as it was defeated by the Fighting Irish, 74-73 on January 30 in front of 3,436 fans at the Carrier Dome. The crowd marked the sixth largest in program history. Four players scored in double-figures for SU, including senior forward Juanita Ward who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Erica Morrow and senior forward Vionca Murray accounted for 14 and 12 points, respectively, while senior forward Nicole Michael was one rebound shy of registering a double-double with 11 points and a game-leading nine boards.

Orange Against the Panthers
Syracuse owns the 27-19 series lead against the Panthers, but Pitt has won the last four meetings, including a 77-75 win at the Carrier Dome last season. The Orange won 12 of the first 14 series meetings with the Panthers, while it is 10-12 all-time against the Panthers in Pittsburgh, including a 1-2 mark in the Peterson Events Center.

Last Meeting
Pittsburgh fought off an Orange rally and pulled out a 77-75 victory at the Carrier Dome on January 24, 2009. SU was down five with 1:27 remaining, but a 3-pointer by Erica Morrow brought the Orange within two, 75-73, and after a Pitt turnover, Syracuse knotted it up on a drive by Chandrea Jones with 20 ticks remaining. Following a Pittsburgh timeout with nine seconds remaining, Xenia Stewart ended the contest with a ride-side jumper just prior to the buzzer. Jones posted 23 points and 10 rebounds against the Panthers, while Nicole Michael finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. The Orange converted 20-of-24 from the free-throw line (.833) and forced 21 Pitt turnovers in the game.

Scouting Pittsburgh
The Panthers are 12-8 overall and 1-6 in the BIG EAST this season after last losing, 98-56, to No. 1/1 Connecticut on January 30. Shay Scott led the Panthers with 18 points against the Huskies. Three players are averaging double-figures with Jania Sims leading the way with 13.3 points per game, followed by Taneisha Harrison (12.9 ppg) and Scott (11.3 ppg). Chelsea Cole is averaging 10.6 rebounds per game.
