Nominate someone for EVE award

The Times-Union

Donna Orender, a Jacksonville Beach resident and president of the WNBA, will be the keynote speaker at the EVE Awards in June.

Orender, a former professional basketball all-star, was an executive for the PGA Tour for 17 years before taking the head position at the women's basketball league in 2005.

Since then, she helped negotiate an eight-year TV contract with ESPN to broadcast WNBA games. Her office is in New York City. She and her husband, M.G., a past president of the PGA of America, are parents of twin boys.

EVE nominations open Monday. The deadline to submit them is 5 p.m. April 1. Anyone may nominate someone.

Since 1969, the Times-Union's EVE Awards have recognized local women for their achievements in the areas of education, volunteer service and employment.

Nominees will be judged on their contributions to the First Coast during 2009. Former EVE winners serve as judges, considering each nomination and choosing four finalists in each field. One winner in each category will be announced during the awards luncheon on June 4 at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel.

Nomination forms are available at the Times-Union, 1 Riverside Ave.; by calling (904) 359-4673; or online at www.jacksonville.com/eve_awards.
