Sparks Coach Jennifer Gillom said she is very interested in acquiring free agent Courtney Paris.

The Sparks are looking to sign some free agents since superstar Candace Parker will need surgery on a dislocated left shoulder and will miss the remainder of the season.

Paris, a 6-foot-4 center, was selected by the Sacramento Monarchs with the No. 7 overall draft pick in 2009. After the Monarchs folded late last year, Paris was selected by the Chicago Sky with the fourth pick in the dispersal draft in December. Paris was waived by the Sky on May 12.

Gillom said the team needs a true center, and she hopes a move will be made over over the next day or two.

‘I really like the physicality of Courtney Paris,’ Gillom said. ‘I think she could be a really big threat inside. She can be physical with any other post player ... that could be a huge help for us.’
