Canada's military spending higher now than any time since Second World War

A new CCPA study finds Canadian military spending is higher now than at any time since the end of the Second World War, thanks to twelve years of budget increases. Canada is the 13th largest military spender in the world and the 6th largest within the 26-member NATO alliance.

The study points out that Canada could make a much greater contribution to global security and humanitarian action by shifting resources to non-military security efforts and peacekeeping operations. If the extra $90-110 billion that Canada has committed itself to spend on its military budget over the next 17 years were spent instead on aid, we could meet the 0.7% Official Development Assistance target and provide additional resources for climage change aid.
