Excuses For Not Having A Website and 3 Benefits of Getting One #MarketLikeAQueen

Service-providers need (and want) to #MarketLikeAQueen online.  UPDATE:  Start-ups can now find my Q&A Website over at DMJConsulting.com - Read answers to common questions about why and how to start website for new business.

In a previous article, I shared that to do that effectively and sustainably over the long-term, you must have your own website. In today's article, I share a few benefits of having a website to help you make better strategic choices for your business.

If you are a service-provider (educator, coach, therapist, organization founder, minister, speaker, etc.), you need and want to stand out as a leader in your industry, just like your colleagues who provide products. You want to #MarketLikeAQueen and serve more people who you know that you are called to serve. However, you come across barriers that hold you back from growing your audience or client-base as effectively or as confidently as you would like.

One of the main barriers you may have experienced as a service-provider, is the temptation to skip having a website; or to just have one because someone told you to, without fully using it for your business. Here is one of the main reasons why: you have no physical products.

Read the benefits of having a website. Afterwards, excuses for not having one will no longer stand-up. You'll be empowered to make some better strategic choices for your business.

BENEFITS OF YOUR OWN WEBSITE

  1. Advertising - Read previous article about why a website is required for some ads.
  2. Help Clients Send Referrals To You More Easily
  3. Help New Clients Search For And Find You More Easily
  4. Bonus Benefit: 24/7 Accessibility (Provide good customer service even while you stay asleep.)

STAYING VISIBLE TO LOCAL OR TRAVELING CLIENTS

Having your own website provides more local visibility for people searching for services like yours in their own community or while traveling to your community. Of course you want more local clients to be able to find you easily. You also want to make it easier for them to refer their friends to you. Having your own website gives them a consistent, stable place to find you 24/7/365. Unfortunately, a lot of providers lost my business just because it was so hard for me to find them or to connect with them, even when I was referred by one of their happy clients.

STORY ABOUT HAIR STYLIST I COULD NOT FIND

I have had some pretty frustrating experiences looking for dependable local service providers. This is especially true for hair stylists for myself and my children. So, I tend to not even bother and just work it out on my own.

BUT one day, I had the money in hand and the time to hire someone. I was a highly motivated buyer. Unfortunately, I could not find the person I was referred to. This is a very tragic story that ended in someone else I could find getting my money instead of her.

Here is the story:

A lady saw me taking my two daughters with long thick frizzy old braids into a hair shop where we were turned away because they do not do braids. So, she caught up with me as I arrived at my car in the parking lot. She pulled me to the side and compassionately told me about her awesome braid lady who comes to her house to do her daughter's long thick beautiful hair. She showed me a picture. I got excited by what I saw and got the phone number and name from her.

Then I called and got an automated message. It said, “The person you have called is not available to take your call. Please leave a voicemail,” and then, “This mailbox is full. Please try your call again later."

(Did I call later? Uh. No.)

I wanted the small business owner to get my business, but she made it impossible for me to connect with her easily and quickly. So, I hung up and did not try again. Instead, I found another provider who was available. Someone else got my money because this person did not have a way for me to connect with her more easily.

She made it harder for her happy client to send me over as a referral. What a shame! What a loss!

BONUS TIP: You can provide 24/7 accessibility so clients can always reach you to set appointments or to pay you... even if you stay asleep while they contact you. I have an app for that. Ask me for a demo when you have your free session.

GO BEYOND LOCAL

Global search-ability online is even better than local only. With your own website, any client anywhere in the world can search for keywords relevant to your industry and find little ol’ YOU. If your web strategy is done correctly, you can expand your audience and client-base further into the world.

This is so important if you have a service you can provide across borders and oceans. This includes services that are not heavily regulated (in most places), such as coaching and education. This could also include content marketing using your information products.
