According to the twitter of anime producer Kikukawa Yukio, animator and producer Kakoi Hiroshi was killed in the earthquake. He was 56 years old.

He was one of the producers of Macross II: Lovers Again and Moldiver. He was known as one of the key animators who created the episode 27 of Macross in 1982. The action scenes of the episode had made a great impact on the young animators at that time. Anno Hideaki and Suezen were among the key animators of the episode.

According to animator Onda Naoyuki, Kakoi had already retired from the anime industry.

It's not really surprising that among 7,200 deaths and 11,000 missing due to the earthquake that someone from the anime industry is a victim. But still..

I wish this was just a rumor much like the one about Satoshi Tajiri.

May he rest in peace.

It is always sad to have someone who actually managed to accomplish something in this stale world die. I hope that we don't have any more sad news like this one. I haven't seen or read anything connected with this poor man, but I am sad about the report nonetheless.

I couldn't remember what episode 27 was, but I had a feeling it would be the epic one with minmay singing (don't want to spoil too much). Had to watch it again to make sure- I can see why it left a great impression on people.
