ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A defensive effort that held St. Bonaventure to 27 percent shooting from the field lifted the Temple women's basketball to its 11th straight win by a score of 54-38. Qwedia Wallace led the Owls (18-6, 9-0) with a game-high 13 points while Kristen McCarthy scored 12 for Temple.

McCarthy and Natasha Thames brought down six rebounds apiece, with McCarthy also recording a game and career-high three blocks.

Shey Peddy led the Owls with five assists and tied for the team high with six rebounds. Her game-high four steals put her at 73 for the season, already ranking ninth all-time in program history for single season steals with five regular-season games remaining.

St. Bonaventure (15-10, 5-5) was led by Megan Van Tatenhove with eight points and Armelia Horton with eight rebounds.

After an early 8-1 run gave Temple a 9-3 lead five minutes into the game, the Owls were able to stay on top thanks to holding St. Bonaventure to just one field goal in the first 11 minutes. But Temple's own scoring drought of over seven minutes kept the first half a very low-scoring affair.

Wallace ended the drought with a pair of three-pointers, and Temple was able to match its largest lead of seven twice more in the half. Turnovers hurt the flow of the game for both teams, with Temple's coming mainly on offensive foul calls. Each squad recorded 11 total turnovers in the first half.

Wallace finished the half with eight points as the Owls took a 21-14 into the break.

Temple's defense kicked it up another notch in the second half, once again holding St. Bonaventure to just one field goal for nearly 11 minutes and recording five steals in that time.

Peddy's fastbreak layup that turned into an old-fashioned three-point play gave Temple a 14-point, 32-18 lead, capping an 11-4 opening run.

The lead grew thanks to the second-half play of McCarthy, who scored all 12 of her points in the second period.

The Bonnies cut a 17-point Temple lead down to 12, 41-29 with six minutes remaining, but an 11-2 run by the Owls over the next four minutes put the game out of reach for St. Bonaventure.

The Owls will be back at home for their next game, as Temple will host La Salle in its “Pink Zone” match-up at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. The first 500 fans to McGonigle Hall will receive pink pom-poms, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to support the initiative in the fight against breast cancer.
