Legendary Coaches Meet, Rutgers wins

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Two of the most successful African-American women's basketball coaches faced off Monday night.

C. Vivian Stringer's Rutgers team came out on top 88-59 over Patricia Cage-Bibbs' North Carolina A&T squad. Senior Jaleesa Sams led the Aggies with 17 points and four rebounds.

Rutgers guard Khadijah Rushdan led all scorers with 26 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field and 10-for-11 shooting from the free throw line. Rushdan also had 10 rebounds.

The matchup was a contest between two coaches who have a combined 1,317 wins between them. Stinger is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, while Bibbs has a string of Hall of Fame credits to her name. Bibbs has 472 wins and 10 conference championships over her 26-year career.

On Monday, it was the Scarlet Knights who took the upper hand in the second half. Sams' layup pulled the Aggies to within seven at 40-33 with 14:35 remaining in the game.

The Scarlet Knights began to heat up, however. Two Rushdan layups put Rutgers ahead by 11. After a Berry 3-point play cut it to eight, Nikki Speed's 3-pointer gave the Scarlet Knights a double-digit lead again. The Aggies were not able to get any closer the rest of the night as two Briana Hutchen free throws pushed Rutgers' lead to 20 with 9:04 remaining.

The Aggies return to action on Tuesday, November 30 when they play their home opener against UNC Charlotte at 7 p.m.
