Longwood Women's Basketball Coaching Change

12.6.2010

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Director of Athletics Troy Austin has announced the removal of women's basketball head coach Kristin Caruso. Austin said that veteran ninth-year men's basketball assistant coach Bill Reinson will serve as Interim Head Coach for the remainder of this season, effective immediately. Caruso was in her fourth year at Longwood during 2010-11, and had registered a 34-60 record during her three-plus seasons with the program.

“It is in the best interest of the Longwood Women's Basketball program that a change in leadership is made at this time,” said Austin. “I have a great deal of confidence in Bill Reinson to direct the team during this transition.”

A native of Mesa, Arizona, Reinson has been an assistant with the men's program at Longwood since September, 2002. He previously served two seasons (2000-02) as an assistant coach at UNC Greensboro. Additionally, Reinson served as an assistant women's coach with the Lancers for the final 13 games of 2002-03 (27-5) under long-time head coach Shirley Duncan during the final year of Division II eligibility. LU was 11-2 in those games while winning the CVAC Tournament and advancing to the second-round of the NCAA East Regional.

Longwood (1-6) is scheduled to play again this Saturday, Dec. 11, hosting Wright State University at 2 p.m.
