SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 22 Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team clinched the program's first regular season California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship tonight with a 67-56 victory over Cal State Stanislaus tonight at the Kelp Bed.
The Otters concluded the regular season with a 24-2 overall record and 20-2 in the CCAA.
Senior #Julie Heurung# scored a career-high 25 point on her way to her third double-double of the season. Junior #Brandi Stephens# was CSUMB leading scorer in the first half with nine points and pulled down a season-high nine rebounds. Senior #London Houchin# added nine points and six rebounds. Senior #Michelle Santizo# contributed eight points and two assists. Sophomore #Jessica Fontenette# finished seven points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Otters took a 34-31 lead into the locker room after a buzzer beater layup by sophomore #Britnee Lewis#.
CSUMB dominated in the second half by outscoring the Warriors 33-25.
The Otters dished out nine assists on top of six blocked shots and eight steals. They also out-rebounded Stanislaus 49-38.
The Warriors were led by Christin Gowan's 18 points and Katie Busi's 11 rebounds.
The Otters will host Sonoma State (9-17, 7-15 CCAA) on Tuesday, March 1 in the first round of the CCAA Championship Tournament. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at the Kelp Bed. The Seawolves finished in the eight slot in the conference standings. To purchase tickets, go to the OtterAthletics CCAA Tournament Page.
