Sentai Filmworks Licenses Maria Holic Alive (Update 2)

posted on by Gia Manry
The Anime Network to simulcast series starting 10 p.m. Central Standard Time on April 10

The North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the North American license to Maria Holic Alive!, the sequel to 2009 television anime Maria Holic. ANN has confirmed that the license includes both home video and digital rights, although the company did not go into details about its release plans for the series.

Shortly after Sentai issued its press release, The Anime Network announced its plans to simulcast the series starting at 10:00 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST) on April 10. The first episode will be available to all users of The Anime Network's streaming site, while the second episode will only be available to registered users (including free users) and the rest of the series only to paid subscribers.

Maria Holic is a television anime adaptation of Minari Endo's manga of the same name. The story centers on high school sophomore Kanako, who enrolls in all-girls school because she has a phobia of men and wants to find her destined yuri partner. She meets a captivating freshman named Mariya who fits her criteria — except her seemingly ideal mate happens to be a cross-dressing sadistic boy.

The television anime was animated by studio Shaft and directed by Akiyuki Shinbo. Advertising for the manga's seventh volume confirmed that a sequel anime was in the works this past October. The second season is currently scheduled to premiere on April 7 in Japan.
