I’ve had the opportunity to play the preview build for Phantoom Entertainment’s Super Blast 2 for the past several days. The first thing I noted about this 2D shmup was that the game is one heck of a looker! The graphics are simply amazing on this, combining 3D (and really shiny) robots and monsters, with 2D backgrounds. The controls are really simple as well, with players having to just tilt the phone to move their robot left and right as it auto-fires with just one objective: do not let any of the monsters pass.

It sounds like a daunting task but there are plenty of power-ups to help you along the way. I simply love the effects when the electricity power-up is activated, you can see that the developers spared nothing to make this game look amazing. Tapping on the screen releases the titular “Super Blast”, destroying every single enemy on screen. The game boasts 3 difficulty levels and up  to 12 different enemy types, some with their own unique fighting style (there’s one with this teleporting ability, a first I believe in a shmup) .

The game provides both Game Center and OpenFeint leaderboards and achievements, so that part is pretty much covered. Super Blast 2 is a great additional to the stable of shmups available for the iPhone and ranks heads and shoulders above a majority of them. The game is available on App Store starting from today, check it out over here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/super-blast-2/id397344088?mt=8 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
