What is it?

American audio experts Harman Kardon’s funky new speaker with wireless sub woofer, the SB 30.

What’s special about it?

Harmon Kardon has released a number of soundbars in the past but this one’s an award-winner - earlier this year, the SB 30 snapped the CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award at the premiere Las Vegas showcase.

Despite its small, slim package, it packs some large sounds, 13 speakers to be exact. And with six woofers, seven tweeters and 11 amplifier channels, the SB 30 is made to please even the most discerning of audiophiles. Of course, the slim design is will go with all the ubiquitous flatscreens. Connected to a wireless sub woofer, this one automatically pairs as soon as you power it up.

True, it’s not exactly surround sound but Harmon Kardon’s proprietary digital signal processing (DSP) technology kind of tricks your ears into thinking sounds are coming from different directions. There are two listening modes, Virtual and Wave. The Virtual mode is intended to create a faux-surround effect from two-channel sources while the Wave mode creates a surround sound effect from 5.1 content. The compact wireless subwoofer can be placed easily anywhere.

When is it available and for how much?

The SB 30 is now available in the UAE at all harman house outlets for Dh3,499.
