iPhoneographer of the Day - BrownEyes
BrownEyes is another iPhoneographer from Japan whose work I really love. Like ARCH English is not BrownEye’s native language but was kind enough to put some words together for us and our readers.
Here is BrownEyes…
(Welcome to my town, Autumn)
EC: Where are you from? Tell me about yourself? Any hobbies?
BE: I was born & raised in Tokyo Japan, now living in Kanagawa pref and working as a project manager for a small web development company in Tokyo. My hobbies include photography of course. :-) I recently bought a Nikon D7000 (hooray! but still struggling to get along with this new buddy). The most suitable camera type for me is compact. So mostly I’m with Ricoh GR-D II. Other than photography, I’ve been into south Asian (not only Indian) culture/movie/music!
EC: How did you get into iPhoneography?
BE: For one I’m a camera lover, getting iPhone is equal to getting new Toy camera with dev. & publish tools. :-) Actually, for a while I played with editing tool on the iPhone on my own before knowing about iPhoneography after awhile I got to know about “iPhoneography”.
(Urban bird)
EC: What does iPhoneography mean to you?
BE: Food, sleep, love and iPhoneography! One of usual and joyful parts of life.
EC: Do you have any formal training regarding traditional photography?
BE: No. Still learning by myself, sloooowly day by day.
(With evening sun (blurred))
EC: Who or what are your artistic influences?
BE: Mom (cloisonne artist), Dad (haiku poet), my cat (passed away)
EC: What has been the some of the challenges of using the iPhone as a camera?
BE: While shooting, I sometimes try not to stop my own movement. (I know out of basic rule!)
(Invisible Wall)
EC: Has your work been published before, if so, where? Did you ever expect your work to be noticed by the iPhoneography community?
BE: Once, my work was published in a domestic magazine about “iPhone x Ccamera”. http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4777916367 I think not too many people even know about this. LOL.
EC: What has been the most surprising or most predictable reaction from people to your iPhotographs?
BE: Surprised at first, and now a bit predictable is people tel me “your photos are not like those taken by girls.” I don’t hate to hear that anyway.
(Over there)
EC: What’s in your iPhone camera bag (apps)? What app(s) do you currently use the most often?
BE: Long time friends include: PS Express, ShakeItPhoto, Camera Kit, Film Lab, Camera Bag, Camera+, Crop Suey, Pro HDR
EC: Do you mind telling us how you have created a recent iPhoneography piece from start to finish?
BE:Sure, here’s details for this one
Step 1: Original shot
Recently for shooting, I use default camera or ClearCam app.
This one is taken by ClearCam.
Love set focus and photometric points differently especially backlight situation like this.
Another point I love this Camera app is it shoots 4, and pick clearer image from them by itself (or you can control more by this app).
It suits me rather than anti-shake supported app (I am impatient to do this). :-p
Step 2:
However I controlled focus point and photometric point differently, dark part of image is still too dark. So a bit modify by Pro-HDR. I personally don’t like very HDR photography, so it’s quite small editing for at least enable to “feel” tiled patterns of the building from the image - plus made this a bit warmer for leaves above.
Step 3
Make ups!
Sometimes, I try 5 or more filters. Worse case, tried and tried and throw them away. But this time, I haven’t much try.
For me, points of this image were backlight, sky’s blue and girl. So I took some filter by PictureShow.
That is all! :-)
EC: Any other thoughts that you would like to share.
BE: A bit tough, but I enjoy answering each questions. Thanks for offering me the interview.
