GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Hampton University women's basketball team won its third straight game on Wednesday night, beating East Carolina 69-63 at the Minges Coliseum.
It marked the Lady Pirates' first win over East Carolina in six all-time meetings.

Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) led the Lady Pirates with 22 points despite 4-for-12 shooting. She made 12 of 15 free throws on the night. Senior forward
Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) added 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting, while junior forward
Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) added 14 points.

Laura Lewis (Dallas, Texas) each pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Jenkins added a team-high four assists.
Hampton (4-4) led 30-23 at the half, but ECU closed within three with 15:12 left to play when Kim Gay hit a jumper to cut the score to 37-34. Hampton pulled out to 45-37 lead at the 12:25 mark after a Warner layup, before ECU took a 46-45 lead with 9:55 to play on a 3-pointer by Kelly Smith to cap a 9-0 run.
Jenkins converted a 3-point play at the 9:22 mark to put Hampton back up 48-46. Ariana Jackson hit two free throws with 3:22 left to pull ECU within one, 54-53, before the Lady Pirates out-scored ECU 15-10 down the stretch.
Hampton made eight of 12 free throws in the final three minutes.
The Lady Pirates shot 37.5 percent (18-for-48) from the floor, while also making 27 of 33 free throws (81.8 percent). Hampton forced 18 ECU turnovers, turning them into 22 points.
East Carolina shot 30.8 percent (20-for-65) from the floor, while going just 2-for-19 (10.5 percent) from 3-point range. ECU out-rebounded Hampton 42-40.
Gay led ECU (4-5) with 10 points.
