Howard Snaps Four Game Skid With 59-51 Win Over Long Island

BROOKLYN, NY -Howard snapped its four game skid with a 59-51 win over Long Island on Dec. 1. The Lady Bison improve to 3-6 on the season, and will travel to Hampton, VA to take on Hampton Pirates on Dec. 4. The game is slated for 6 p.m.

Saadia Doyle finished the game with 24 points and eight boards - shooting 8-for-13 from the floor and a flawless 7-for-7 at the charity stripe. Thus far, Doyle has recorded 20 points or more in five games.

Tamoria Holmes tallied nine points and five steals on the night. India Bradford also had nine points beyond a 3-for-6 mark from behind the arc. Cheyenne Curley-Payne finished with eight points while dishing out five assists.

As a team, the Lady Bison shot 84 percent from the free-throw line (11-for-13) and 40 percent from the floor (21-for-52), while holding LIU to a 34.5 clip (19-for-55).

The Lady Bison pounded the ball down low outscoring the Blackbirds in the paint 24-22. HU scored 19 points off 23 Blackbird miscues.

For the Blackbirds, Heidi Mothershead finished the game with a team-high 15 points, while Chelsi Johnson recorded 14 points. Ashley Palmer had a team-best 13 boards.

Syracuse Too Much For UMES In 73-50 Win At Carrier Dome

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse's Kayla Alexander scored 27 points, including 16 in the first half, as the Orange defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 73-50, at the Carrier Dome Wednesday.

Alexander, who set a career-high for the second straight game, was 9-of-9 from the field and 9-of-10 from the foul line with seven rebounds and four blocks. Iasia Hemingway (20 points, 12 rebounds) and Carmen Tyson-Thomas (10 points, 13 rebounds) each posted double-double for Syracuse (5-0) who won their 33rd consecutive non-conference home game.

Casey Morton led UMES with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting and Amber Cook chipped in with 11, shooting 3-of-5 from the floor.

Syracuse limited UMES to 14 points for the remainder of the game, cruising to the win.

Syracuse was 23-for-59 (39 percent) while UMES shot 18-of-56 (32.1 percent).

UMES turned 23 Syracuse turnovers into 21 points to lead in points off turnovers. UMES also had more points in transition (11-8), and from its bench (18-15) than its host.

Cold Shooting Lady Hornets Downed By Seton Hall

Dover, Del. (Dec. 1, 2010) --- Delaware State hit just 18- of-62 shots from the field (29%) in a 65-57 women's basketball loss to the Seton Hall Pirates in Memorial Hall this evening.

The Lady Hornets dropped their second straight to fall to 1-4 on the season. Seton Hall snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 4-4.

Terry Green came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points for Seton Hall. Green was 8-for-11 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point territory. Jasmine Crew added 11 points, while Tajay Ashmeade led all players with 11 rebounds for the Pirates.

Delaware State was led by Brittany Washington's 10 points. She also topped the Lady Hornets with six rebounds. Kianna Conner came off the bench to add nine points and a team-high three assists for DSU.

Lady Bears Stopped at Home By UNCG, 66-47; Home Winning Streak Ends at Seven

BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 1, 2010)-Amanda Leigh recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Monique Floyd added 11 points to lead the University of North Carolina Greensboro to a 66-47 non-conference victory over Morgan State at Hill Field House on Wednesday.

With the win the visiting Spartans improved to 3-0 all-time against the Lady Bears and upped their record to 2-4 on the season, while Morgan State dropped to 4-3.

The 19-point loss ended Morgan State's home court winning streak of seven consecutive games and was the worst home defeat for the Lady Bears, since an 18-point (82-64) loss to North Carolina A&T on Jan. 10, 2009. The 47 points scored by the Lady Bears was also the lowest scoring output at home by at Donald Beasley coached Morgan State team since a 42-40 win over Delaware State on Jan. 8, 2007.

Morgan State was led by Brittany Dodson, who tallied a team-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Dodson also added a game-high six steals, giving her 112 for her career and moving her into 12th-place all-time at Morgan State. Whitney Southerland came off the bench to add 10 points in the loss. Fresh off her career-best all-around game of 16 points, 10 steals and nine rebounds against Northwestern State, Moneshia Davis tallied five steals, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists, but was held to just one point against the Spartans.

The visiting Spartans held a 49-27 advantage over Morgan State on the boards with 34 of them coming on the defensive end and had 14 assists to 12 by Morgan State. The Lady Bears however, forced 27 turnovers, while committing 17 and collected 16 steals, while UNCG finished with nine steals.
