Odyssey Sims proud of her high school team’s state championship

This past weekend MacArthur (Irving, Texas), the high school attended by Baylor freshman Odyssey Sims, won the Texas Class 5A semifinals of the UIL state tournament in Austin. MacArthur was led by point guard Alexis Jones.

Last year, the team seemed to be in the running for winning a title. But in the regional final game, less than 20 seconds into the contest, Sims went down and suffered a torn ACL. The team lost the game.

This year, MacArthur coach and Baylor graduate coach Suzie Oelshlegel, got the championship she deserved according to Sims.

"I’m very proud," she said of her high school team’s victory. "It’s something that my high school coach, Coach O, has been waiting for, for a long time and I’m very proud of her. She deserves it, she’s been waiting for it a long time and she finally got what she deserved.”

Oelshlegel played at Baylor during 1976-1977 season under Olga Fallen. Her team had a 32-12 record and finished the season ranked 5th in the AP poll and 5th place in the AIAW. It was the first year of the AP poll, invented by Mel Greenberg and initially published by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
