Laura Theodore is a television and radio host, vegan chef, sustainable lifestyle blogger, compassionate cookbook author, and award-winning jazz singer and actor. She is the proud creator of the "Jazzy Vegetarian." Theodore is presently the on-camera host, writer, and co-producer of the Jazzy Vegetarian television show on Public Television, coming into its third season. She hosts the weekly podcast show, "Jazzy Vegetarian Radio," a talk/music format that focuses on easy-to-prepare, plant-based recipes, eco-entertaining tips, and celebrity interviews.     There are so many different and interesting ways to cook. I have looked for a vegetarian cook book with recipes that called for ordinary ingredients which many people would have on hand. If they did not have them on hand they are easy to find. The instructions are clearly stated and there are many photographs to show the outcome of the recipe. Every cuisine has its own special techniques and I would recommend this book for someone who wants to begin cooking vegetarian cuisine. Even seasoned vegetarian home cooks will appreciate this book..

    Jazzy Vegetarian Classics has replaced Laura Theodore's Jazzy Vegetarian as my new all-time favorite cookbook. As always, Laura's recipes are extremely easy to understand and prepare. Ingredients are easy to find in any well-stocked grocery. The pictures of completed dishes are gorgeous and close-up. And all dishes are not just vegetarian, but vegan with occasional tips to make some recipes even healthier. Plus they taste great! Ordering was easy. It was also easy to follow the order during shipping. And the book arrived a day ahead of the scheduled delivery date. Great service all around.

    Laura Theodore, jazz chanteuse and chef par excellence from The Jazzy Vegetarian television show, crafts cook books that are works of art. They are so beautifully made, in fact, that one would look right at home as a coffee table book. Her recipes are easy and approachable with just enough sophistication for the palate without needing to turn the kitchen into a science lab. She recently released a 3 dvd set that demonstrates the preparation for some of the recipes in her cookbooks, so that is a great companion to get if you don't happen to get her show in your neck of the woods.

    I am not a vegan, and have no plans to convert, but I am incorporating more plant-based meals into my diet. My first step was to acquire some plant-based cookbooks, and this is one of the 4 or 5 I purchased recently. I have watched The Jazzy Vegetarian on PBS, and I appreciate the less preachy approach of the host/author. The book is nice, with good pictures, information, and instructions. The recipes are ultra-easy. However, I find the recipes just too lean for my palette. For people who need to drastically cut salt, fat, and sugar, this book might be a good resource. But I am a passionate cook, and these recipes, as written, just don't do it for me. When I increased my plant-based eating (approximately 2 out of 3 meals per day plant-based, or weekday plant-based, and weekend non plant-based), I lost about 10 lbs in a month without worrying at all about fat, sugar, and salt. Fortunately, I don't have health conditions that require a drastic diet approach, so I have the option to be a little more decadent in my approach to plant-based eating and cooking. I also dislike the overuse of dried Italian seasoning in her recipes. Yuck. The dessert section of the book is the most promising, but I don't enjoy dessert so much. With some significant recipe tinkering, I will use the book, but it isn't my favorite.

    Jazzy Vegetarian Classics is a wonderful introduction to the vegan lifestyle. I became familiar with the author through her public television show. Her book begins with an explanation of vegan/vegetarian dishes. There is a glossary of common foods used in the recipes. None of these call for difficult to find ingredients. Many offer a meatless option for a well known comfort food. I am vegetarian, so I choose to substitute ingredients at times. But I look for variety, and something new to try, especially THIS winter. The photos are great, there are suggestions for menus, and there are helpful notes.
