CSUB Names Greg McCall Head Women?s Basketball Coach

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.---CSUB Athletic Director Jeff Konya announced Apr. 29 that Greg McCall has been named head women's basketball coach, removing the interim tag McCall has operated under since the departure of Tim La Kose. McCall has agreed to terms of a three-year deal to become the third head coach in program history.

"We were looking for the right fit to maintain continuity in our program and Greg McCall was the overwhelming choice by our department and our student athletes," said Konya. "His coaching experience as an assistant here at CSUB and as a head coach elsewhere, along with his ties to the community made this an easy decision."

McCall spent the previous four seasons as an assistant at CSUB helping guide to Roadrunners to a pair of postseason appearances including a 22-12 record in 2011. He was instrumental in recruiting student-athletes for the 'Runners, along with scouting, game planning and player development.

This will be McCall's second stint as a head coach, as he previously led nearby Taft College for 10 seasons (1997-2007), helping restart the Cougars' women's basketball program and successfully leading them into the State Junior College Tournament.  He began his coaching career at CSUB under Pat Douglass, winning a NCAA Division II National Championship in 1997. He also played for Douglass and was a team captain on the Roadrunners' 1991 Division II Final Four team.
